The Big Man
♣ So what is this whole thing about?
More about the Chrestomanci books, by Dianna Wynne Jones:
is a book series featuring the wonderful nine-lifed enchanter- Christopher Chant. I say loose series, since all the books except for The Lives of Christopher Chant have their own story lines and main characters that don't revolve around Chrestomanci himself, but are undoubtly related to him. The following are apart of the series (listed in chronological order):
- The Lives of Christopher Chant (1988)
- Conrad's Fate (2005)
- Charmed Life (1977)
- The Magicians of Caprona (1980)
- Witch Week
- Mixed Magics
- The Pinhoe Egg (2006)
Witch Week is not actually a novel, but a collection of several Chrestomanci short stories, consisting of Stealer of Souls, Carol Oneir's 100th Dream, Warlock at the Wheel and The Sage of Theare.
So now, you might be asking, What is Chrestomanci? Basically, Chrestomanci is a title given to a nine-lifed enchanter (a very rare type of magic user) in the book series. In the series, there are many different parallel worlds, known as series. These worlds are not very different from our own, as they simply emerged as different courses took place in history. For example, one world that concentrated on using technology, and another that uses magic. But, in every world, there is a duplicate of everyone from another world born. So, if I existed in this series, then there are other "me" in other series. Now, for this reason, we have many different alternate personas in there different parallel worlds. But, ever so often, there are people born, who, through some reason or another, don't get born in other worlds as they are supposed to. Hence, these people have Multiple Lives. The most lives known are those with nine lives, who, when found, become Chrestomanci. Like it implies, these people have different lives, so they can "die" 8 times before they are truely gone from the world. Since they have different lives, they also have the nine people
