Process :
The moment I saw Howl’s Moving Castle artbook, I knew I wanted to make a layout with the falling stars, since that was my favorite part in the movie and the art book as well. Hence, I set off to doing just that. I wanted to just blend things together and use quick masks (since I’m so stupid, I just learned that method of extraction), so I set off doing this layout. I didn’t want it on plain black, since I was quite sick of it, so settled on a blue color scheme, and was not afraid of using really bright colors, or else it would turn out pastel. I first added the face, textures, backgrounds, and then blended in more. The Castle Extraction was the hardest part to do, and actually it was the one I did first. I glinted in effects, and then made it seem as if the moonlight was shining off of the silhouette. Blending in various screenshots from the artbook, I created the scene with Howl swallowing Calcifer, and placed other objects such as more shooting stars and Sophie as an old woman on a boat on the left. For the navigation I kept it simple numbers that just highlighted a bit when hovered over. The title of the fanlisting was blended in with small Sophie running on the grass fields.
An important thing to notice in this layout is the fact that the repeating background isn’t plain solid color, but a screenshot of the mountains that I carefully edited so they would be able to repeat properly. This turned out really well and gave the layout much more body. The footer I added last, just to fill in space, and put a small blue gradient on the bottom that just lightened the layout up a bit, giving it a break from all the darkness behind the text.

A Howl’s Moving Castle layout highlight the scene when Howl swallows Calcifer. This layout is made primarily of blends, and consists mostly of these with the shooting stars. Simple divs guide it with navigation on the left hand side.
